The Midtown LEOs are a community service youth group made up of Middle and High School age youth that want to make a difference in our community. LEO's are part of Lions Club International, the largest service organization in the world.
The Midtown LEOs were officially recognized by Lions Club International June 28, 2024. In their 1st year they have accomplished a lot for our community. The Midtown LEOs have in their 1st year with a few news links below;
Completed 3 community E-waste recycling events (Fairmont Lions can help you recycle your electronics this weekend), supported the Fairmont Lions in 2 Rail Trail clean ups, assembled and painted Angel Trees to collect presents for over 230 children in need ( Midtown LEO’s Club paints angel trees for local children) (Middletown LEOs youth organization prepares for holiday gift collections | Local News | timeswv.com), spent a day wrapping some of the gifts collected, assisted the Historical Society with their Haunted Jail, passed out candy at the Middletown Commons trunk or treat, participated in both the Whitehall and Fairmont Christmas parades, and participated in the Marion County Literacy fair where they demonstrated E-waste recycling and talked to area youth about community service.
The LEOs are working on a few more projects developed by the LEOs, one being the fundraising for their Legacy School safety project where they are raising money for Nightlocks for every classroom door for all area classroom doors. They are starting with Elementary schools with the 1st school identified is Whitehall Elementary where the kids need to raise approx. $2300, then to Jayenne where approx $1800 needs to be raised to cover all classroom doors for just those 2 schools alone.
To raise money for their School Safety project they will be holding a yard sale July 12, 2025, location yet to be determined, a Squatching fundraiser (Example of this is the 1st picture in the gallery) and their share of money raised at the E-waste recycling events. They currently have raised $1200 that gets them over halfway to goal to do Whitehall Elementary. After they are complete and the LEOs start fundraising for Jayenne, the next school after Jayenne will be identified.
Watch for updates on our website and area community facebook pages.
